Greg's journey in music began after completing a B.A. at Harvard University and the Guitar Performance program at Berklee College of Music. He started teaching blues ensembles and workshops at Berklee College's International Network School in Barcelona, Spain. Simultaneously, he toured as a sideman for Texas Blues artist Loti Lewis and Latin Soul artist Gemma Genazzano. Upon returning to Massachusetts, Greg led the instrumental music program and blues/rock bands at the Belmont Hill School (grades 7-12) and initiated community music programs for younger children at various centers.

Since 2002, Greg has been based in New York City, where he has successfully taught numerous students of all ages. He operates his own teaching business and collaborates periodically with private and public schools. Additionally, he conducts guitar workshops for employees at companies like Time, Inc. and Home Box Office (HBO). Alongside his teaching endeavors, Greg continues to pursue his career as a singer-songwriter, gracing the stages of New York's renowned venues.
Greg's commitment to music education extends beyond his individual teaching. In 2011, he co-created and served as Program Director for the Catskill Jazz Factory, a non-profit organization dedicated to hosting residencies for Jazz artists and providing educational outreach and concerts across Greene, Ulster, and Columbia counties. Notable artists like Grammy-nominated Thelonious Monk Award Winner Jamison Ross and Dominick Farinacci participated in the program under the guidance of Greg and Artistic Director Aaron Diehl.
Greg Dayton has mentored exceptional students throughout his career, including Anson Jones, a standout vocalist recognized for three consecutive years as the Outstanding Vocal Performance recipient in both jazz and blues/pop categories by Downbeat Magazine's Student Music Awards.
