Greg Dayton (1965- ) is an American singer/songwriter/guitarist/music educator based in Sausalito, California, and New York City. With influences from electric and acoustic blues, classic rock, soul, and jazz, Dayton was inducted as a Great Blues Artist into the New York Blues Hall of Fame in 2016. He has released two critically acclaimed solo albums, Lonesome Road (2016) and Sailing for the Sun (2020) as well as the single “See My Baby” (2021). He is currently the artistic director of the Sausalito Music Revival (sausalitomusicrevival.org) which celebrates the talent of the San Francisco Bay Area with live performances raising money for the non-profit Sausalito Sister Cities, Inc. He is the father of modern dancer and choreographer Noa Genazzano (1996- ).

Dayton self-released his debut solo album, Lonesome Road,(Spotify, Apple Music, and  Amazon) in 2016. Recorded and co-produced with Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer, Steve Addabbo (Shawn Colvin, Bob Dylan), at Shelter Island Sound in New York City. The album features Greg on lead vocals and all guitars, Eric Brown and Blake Hepburn on drums, Dave Inniss on bass, Nick Rolfe and Michael ….on keys and B3, Anson Jones, Swalonda Jacobs, and Chris LaCour on backing vocals. Shortly after the release, he was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame in 2016.

 

For his second solo album, Sailing for the Sun, he signed with Ropeadope/Modern Icon Recordings for a release in February 2020. Produced and mixed by Adrian Harpham in NYC, with influences from blues, rock and folk to soul, the album features performances by Greg's New York-based band including Greg on all lead vocals and guitars, Adrian Harpham on Drums, Anthony Robustelli on Keys, Steve Bernstein, Erik Lawrence, and Doug Weiselman on horns,  Dave Inniss on bass, Anson Jones, Towera Smith, and Clayton Bryant on backing vocals, and co-writes with Max Rifkin, Chris La Cour and Josh Solomon. The album received favorable reviews from Elmore Magazine: “pure meat and potatoes rock and roll…songs that stay with you like a welcome house guest, good for many returns.” 

 

His 2021 single, “See My Baby” featuring fingerstyle acoustic guitar with  Steve Bernstein’s Boutique Brass Choir, Fred Cash on bass and producer Adrian Harpham on drums, is featured in Relix Magazine’s July/August 2021 digital compilation and playlist.
